Chaplu Leaves

Thai: ใบชะพลู (bai cha-plu)


bai chapluChaplu Leaves are used as a wrapper in the dish Mieng Kham. I’ve seen them eaten all over Asia, from South to East. They look similar to betel leaf, but are not bitter. This leaf is hard to find outside of Asia. If you are making Mieng, you can substitute for any mild flavor leaf. I recommend lettuce or Chinese Broccoli.

Storage: Store in the fridge until ready to eat. Betel leaves don’t last that long, so eat soon.
